Intercultural Misunderstanding: A Case Study of Lombok People in Sumbawa

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe misunderstandings in intercultural communication that happened in interpersonal communication between Lombok people and Sumbawa people that taken place in Sumbawa. This paper is qualitative research design which the result was analyzed by descriptive analysis using Miles and Huberman model. The participant in this study was Lombok people who have been in Sumbawa. The data was taken by answering the questionnaire and interview. The result was there were some misunderstandings that occur in interpersonal communication. It also was found the cause and source of misunderstanding matched to Dascal and Bou-Franch classification and how to solve these problems.
